Konrad Knerr “In Australia there has been tremendous enthusiasm for ESG integration, primarily through the UNPRI, but relatively little direct action from larger asset owners and managers. CAER has utilised its leading status as the first organisation outside the European region to be certified to show Australian investors that an independently certified quality standard can enhance the management of environment, social and governance issues in the investment market. It is important to the organisation to be able to set a leading example for ESG research in the Australian market through maintaining this certification.
CAER found internal practical benefits from the certification process. As a result of the certification process internal management systems and processes were reviewed from an objective perspective and this has led to improved reporting and transparency overall. CAER has also found that this has improved client management services across the business. CAER has found that certification sets us apart from our competitors, in that the research process has clearly defined methodologies and quality checks that are independently verified and assessed both internally and externally. Regular external reviews allow for a fresh perspective to be given to management and this allows for strong systems to be developed and continually improved. In addition to this CAER is able to offer local knowledge of the Australian market, but within a global context of high quality certified research methodologies. Hence clients have greater confidence in the business whether investing in Australasia or internationally.“
Konrad Knerr Chief Operations Officer and Executive Director of Corporate Analysis Enhanced Responsibility Centre for Australian Ethical Research (CAER)
“The CSRR-QS® certification allows us to demonstrate to our clients and other stakeholders that we live up to our commitments and that we have sound quality management procedures in place. This is not only in our own advantage, but also in this of our clients’.
The certification system is a tool that can help us all make progress. Especially for organizations like ours that express opinions on others, it is particularly important to have one’s own methodology and transparency evaluated by an independent third party.”
Fouad Benseddik, Director of Methods and Institutional Affairs, Vigeo (Paris)
"As we highly value the quality of our responsibility research services, it was immediately clear to us that  we would participate  in the process and get CSRR-QS® certification. It was very helpful for us to get an outsider's view on our  processes. The auditing process brought new perspectives into our  quality management system. And, more importantly, the quality standard spurred internal discussions and resulted in a new level of employee awareness and motivation.
As research house with a large client base we have always been attaching great importance to quality issues. From our point of view a consistent and stringent rating methodology together with an absolute independency of agency and analysts are necessary preconditions for reliable rating results"
Matthias Boenning, Head of Research and Member of the Board at oekom research (München)
“We are delighted to achieve CSRR-QS® certification which is the result of changes well managed by our research team over the last two years. ARISE has helped to make our research methodology more robust and more open.  Certification sends a message signal that we place a big emphasis on independent, high quality and transparent research – exactly those attributes which we demand from the companies we asses”
Emmanuel de La Ville, Managing Director, EthiFinance (Maisons Lafitte)
“For ECODES, CSRR-QS® certification has helped us differentiate ourselves in the increasingly crowded global field of sustainability research organisations in two important respects. First, the demanding requirements and mechanisms regarding the management of potential conflicts or interest ensure the independence and impartiality of our work. Second, the rigorous transparency requirements of the standard allow us to highlight the robustness and completeness of the research methodologies we employ as well as the overall soundness of our research methods”.
Aurelio Garcia, Director Research and Analysis Department, ECODES (Zaragoza)
“Our clients rely on our research to make better informed investment decisions. Quality, in terms of accuracy, timeliness and relevance is core to EIRIS. Participating in the VQS has driven a thorough review of our quality management systems and helped focus our organisation on where we can improve on already robust quality standards. We welcome the VQS as part of our commitment to continuous quality improvement.”
Stephen Hine, Head of Responsible Investment Development, EIRIS (London)
Martin Pitura “In our day to day work we are often too busy to take a step back and have a look at policies, procedures, quality routines etc. The VQS certification process gave us the incentive to do just that and it has had a positive impact not only on the quality of services but also on the awareness of our team. They now know that focus on quality is not just something we talk about, but we actually put action behind the words.”
Martin Pitura, Managing Director of GES Investment Services Poland
“There are two main causes for certification. The internal cause is to start a continuously process of improvements and to received a qualitative feedback from an external expert as the auditor is. The second cause is more an external cause. From our point of view it is very important to show the evidence of independent CSR research in dissociation from other providers. And also in relations to the screened companies, it is important to show that we ourselves take issues of quality, transparency and competence very seriously.
We have improved our overall quality system and have installed more continuously improvements steps. In addition we have improved our internal reporting system if conflicts of interest occur. We publish our list of screening criteria and give feed-back to the screened companies in a very detailed way how they can improve their assessments. Our clients can see the detailed rating methodology, see the detailed assessments, the used sources and the reasons for the assessment.
Silke Riedel, Head of imug Investment Research (Hannover)

“The implementation of the quality standard has already begun to pay immediate and impressive dividends in the form of a substantial change in our internal organisational culture as well as our relationships with key external stakeholders. While our organisation has always prided ourselves on the quality of our research output as well as on our transparency and independence, implementation of the quality standard has forced us to complete the task of fully systematising and documenting our internal research, quality control and information systems, thereby allowing us to measure and improve our performance. Furthermore, the transparency and communication mechanisms built into the standard have made us more responsive to the needs of our external stakeholders”.

Victor Viñuales, Executive Director, ECODES (Zaragoza)
